How do I control my Mac from my iPhone?

Install the free Remote Mac Relay helper on your Mac, open the Remote Mac app on your iPhone, and scan the pairing QR code once. Your iPhone then finds the Mac automatically over Bonjour every time you open the app — there is no account to create and nothing to configure.

Do I need to install anything on my Mac?

Yes — Remote Mac Relay, a small menu bar app. It is signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without security warnings. It has no Dock icon and no account.

Does Remote Mac work over the internet or only local Wi-Fi?

Your iPhone and your Mac talk directly to each other on the same local network. The connection never leaves your Wi-Fi, there is no cloud relay for your screen or input, and no telemetry is collected.

Is Remote Mac secure?

Every session is encrypted with TLS 1.3. Scanning the pairing QR code pins your Mac's exact certificate fingerprint to your phone, so no other device can impersonate it, and every message is HMAC-signed and replay-protected. The helper listens on your local network only and makes no outbound connections.

What is VR mode, and do I need a headset?

No headset needed. VR mode wraps your mirrored Mac screen onto a curved virtual display you can zoom into — a personal theater. Hold the gyro clutch and move your phone to look around, or push the on-screen joystick to glide the view. It is motion-tracked rather than stereoscopic, so your iPhone is all it takes.

Can I use my iPhone as a trackpad and keyboard for my Mac?

Yes. The trackpad supports pointer movement, tap and drag, two-finger scrolling and secondary click, and the keyboard sends every key a Mac has — modifiers, the function row, and media keys such as play, pause, and volume.

What are the system requirements?

iOS 17 or later on the iPhone, macOS 14 or later on the Mac, and both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

The short version

Remote Mac is built so that your screen, keystrokes, and clicks stay between your own devices. There are no accounts, the apps collect no analytics or telemetry, and every session is end-to-end encrypted. On your local network, traffic goes directly from your iPhone to your Mac and never touches our servers. The optional Premium relay forwards encrypted traffic it cannot read.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to the Remote Mac iPhone app, the Remote Mac Relay helper for macOS, the optional relay service used by Premium remote access, and this website.

No accounts, no profiles

You do not create an account to use Remote Mac. We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, location, or any advertising identifiers, and we do not build profiles of you or sell data to anyone.

Pairing and local sessions

Pairing happens by scanning a QR code shown by the helper on your Mac. The scan stores your Mac's TLS certificate fingerprint and a shared session key on your iPhone (in the system keychain), and the helper stores the matching entry on your Mac. This data stays on your devices; removing a paired Mac deletes it.

On your local Wi-Fi, your iPhone connects directly to your Mac over TLS 1.3 with the pinned certificate. Screen video, audio, keyboard, and trackpad input travel only between the two devices — none of it is sent to us or to any third party.

Premium remote access and the relay

With Premium, your devices can also connect over the internet through a relay we operate. The relay is a dumb pipe: it forwards traffic that is end-to-end encrypted between your iPhone and your Mac, and it does not have the keys to decrypt your screen, audio, or input.

To route traffic, the relay necessarily processes:

a room identifier derived from your Mac's certificate fingerprint, used to match your two devices;
the IP addresses and connection timing of the devices involved, as any internet service does;
aggregate usage counters used to enforce fair-use limits.

The relay does not store the content of sessions, and connection metadata is kept only as long as needed to operate the service.

Purchases

Premium is sold through Apple's App Store using StoreKit. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card details or billing address. To activate Premium we verify the App Store transaction and issue your phone a client credential for the relay. License keys issued outside the App Store (for testers or support) are validated the same way.

Crash reports and beta testing

The apps contain no analytics SDKs. If you install the beta through TestFlight, Apple may share crash logs and basic usage statistics with us under Apple's privacy terms and your device settings; we use them only to fix bugs.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Downloads of the Remote Mac Relay helper are served from our content delivery network, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, user agent, time of request) for security and operations.

Children

Remote Mac is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and its date. A material change to what the relay can see would be called out prominently, not buried.
